Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle is among a number of schools that are to gain an extra post from the Renewed Programme for Government commitment to allocate 200 posts between primary and post-primary levels in the current school year, according to Education Spokesperson Senator Cecilia Keaveney.
"Naomh Fionan, Whitecastle would have been one of the primary schools that had increased enrolments in the current school year and who, as a result of last year's PTR change, lost out on a teaching post in the current school year by less than 3 pupils. Following consultations with the education partners 100 posts are now being allocated at primary level, one to Naomh Fionan.
The school meets the criteria and Minister Batt O Keefe was pleased to inform me that Department approval for Naomh Fionan's additional post will be issued to the schools in the coming days.
Other schools to gain in Donegal are, St Francis NS, Barnesmore, Donegal Town, SN Dun Ceannfhaolaidh Dun Ceannfhaolaidh, and Scoil Mhuire Rathmealain.
This will be welcome news to the Principal, teachers, parents and students alike. It is important to see continuing supports for all levels of our education system in the county.
Indeed the Departmental emphasis on the recognition of Letterkenny as a point of development for new schools is an indication that the good news for Donegal will continue even in financially difficult times" concluded Senator Keaveney.
