Contributions to the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body

Over the last number of years, I have worked on this body both at plenary meetings where we have Irish T.D.’s, British MPs and members of the devolved parliaments of Northern Ireland (currently suspended), Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. The plenary meetings occur bi-annually, once in Ireland and once in the United Kingdom. Many topics are discussed and members are entitled to contribute one question to each session. The details can be found by clicking on the relevant link.

The body also has sub-committees and I am a member of the ‘Economic Committee: Committee C’. We have dealt with issues such as the delivery of rural health services and are currently looking at the future of small farmers post the Single Payment. Further details of our committee work appear in the plenary session reports.
The body gives us an opportunity to build links with fellow public representatives and often we are able to exchange information and realise just how much we have in common, both in terms of issues but also potential solutions.
